São raros e também não oxidam pela ação de ácidos ou sais. Só que nesse estado não servem para a joalheria por outra característica fundamental: são “moles” demais. Ou seja, acabam se deformando com facilidade.
Com o objetivo de deixar o ouro, a prata ou a platina mais resistentes e duradouros, o joalheiro usa as chamadas ligas metálicas, que nada mais são do que a fundição de dois ou mais metais no mesmo composto metálico.
No caso do ouro a distribuição é a seguinte:
24 quilates = 100% de ouro e 0% de liga
22 quilates = 91,6% de ouro e 8,4 % de liga
19,2 quilates = 80% de ouro e 20% de liga
18 quilates = 75% de ouro e 25% de liga
14 quilates 58,3% de ouro e 41,7% de liga
No Brasil, é mais comum encontrar joias de ouro 18 quilates. Já nos Estados Unidos, por exemplo, uma boa parte das peças chamam a atenção pelo preço baixo, é que nesses casos o ouro é de 14 quilates.
Como você vai saber a diferença? A olho nu é imperceptível. Por isso, é importante comprar com um joalheiro de confiança e pedir o certificado. E se você for o joalheiro (ou pretende ser um) nem é preciso dizer da confiabilidade, responsabilidade e ética, certo? Cliente enganado é ex cliente.
